The Panda Room Returns Saturday 3rd Sept!
The Panda Room materialises at Big Trev’s Takeaway in Tingira st Portsmith on Saturday 3rd of Sept when we up the ante and present SPLENDOUR IN THE BOATYARD with six great bands..
Lady Valiant
Inspired by the original Delta Blues masters, Lady Valiant is a Blues/Rock band formed in Georgia, United States in 2015 and currently based in Port Douglas.
Founding members, Glenna Lynes a South Carolina native and Marty Brown from country Victoria, create a ‘less is more’ soundscape that lacks for nothing with its minimalistic approach. Fusing genres, they have given the Blues the Lady Valiant treatment and added some serious weight into their original music. Using the reliable blend of dirty slide guitar, Joplin inspired soulful vocals, heavy low end and a solid drum groove they bring an authentic fresh sound to the stage with raw power and originality.
Great stories, catchy tunes and rocking riffs that keep the dance floor bouncing.
A hard working band performing around 150 shows a year, Lady Valiant cut their teeth on the Australian pub scene for years before making the move into the Festival circuit playing at Mitchell Creek Rock and Blues, Bendigo Blues & Roots, Wallaby Creek and many more as well as supporting acts such as Jon Stevens and Ash Grunwald and touring the United States and East Coast of Australia.
Forest
Forest. an eccentric and unique wall of chaotic distortion coupled with beautiful melodies and soaring choruses. After touring Japan in 2019 and releasing their sophomore record “Exit/Eject” the boys have remained unstoppable across QLD over the last few years.
Influenced by a whole slew of unique bands from post-hardcore elites like At The Drive-in, Dance Gavin Dance, Closure in Moscow and Alexisonfire to more progressive metal bands like Haken, Mastodon and the Dillinger Escape plan. Forest. pull their unique sound from an orgy of influences resulting in a unique blend of genres that truly gives them their own sound and creates a unique and intense, high energy feel.
Katie Richards Band
Katie’s smooth poetic vocals bring life to her sass & sauce styled Indie Folk music.
Mixed in with both reggae & country licks, Katie & the band will have your audience moving with a fine festival swagger in no time, singing along as they go.
The past decade Katie has performed at many festivals & venues around Australia & N.Z.
Supporting big name acts such as – Gomez, Kate Miller Heidke, Toni Childs, Dragon & Anna Coddington.
Bigfoot Mafia
Bigfoot Mafia have quietly gone about their business of making abrasive rock since 2016, securing support slots with touring bands Clowns, King Parrot, Hellions, Like Thieves, Luca Brasi and Thirsty Merc in the process. They represented Cairns at the Airlie Beach Music Festival in 2017 after winning the local heat of the Battle of the Bands competition, and have toured their home state of Queensland twice. If it seems like an eclectic mix of genres for a rock band that’s because it is.
Versatility is one of the main strengths of Bigfoot Mafia, with their blending of hard rock, classic rock and grunge layered over the essence that is tropical living ensuring they are comfortable performing on any stage with any band. Their mission statement is simple. To connect with people and share their experiences through music. With their debut album, Home Sweet Nowhere, released in 2018, Bigfoot Mafia wasted no time in putting their musical growth onto disk, following up with a single, ‘Let It Burn’, in 2019. COVID put the brakes on 2020, and yet still saw the band headline two local music festivals toward the end of the year and record a track for the Northern Exposure 2021 compilation album by Pandamonium Records released in March of 2021. It’s not rocket science. It’s rock and roll. And rock music may just have found its new King.
Heffa Lump
A Little Bit Grunge, a Little Bit Rock n Roll – We love presenting fresh new bands at the Panda Room. Heffa Lump describe themselves as “A band punk drunk on hard rock n roll!!” – sounds like our kinda thang.. Make sure you get there early to catch them, they will be kicking off at 5.30pm! Can’t wait!
The Brazilians
The De facto Panda Room house band (well it’s their P.A and lighting rig powering the gig, and the venue is their drummers fast food shop!) The Brazilians were borne in the pubs nestled amongst the Mulgrave Delta cane fields of deep far north Queensland. The band got their start playing loud and proud, the twin guitar attack of Macalpine & Williams competing against the industrial din of the Gordonvale sugar mill pumping 24/7 across the road from their gigs.
“The Brazilians rock. Has a great tough swagger!!!!! Love it” – Ray Ahn, The Hard Ons
“Blending the lyrical wit and wisdom of Supersuckers and the musical chops of AC/DC getting their blues on” – Dave Franklin, Dancing About Architecture
